Air India SATS-Zurich Airport to construct an integrated multimodal cargo hub

Air India SATS, the airline’s ground handling services arm, will collaborate with Zurich Airport to build an integrated multimodal cargo hub at the upcoming Jewar airport in Uttar Pradesh.

What is a cargo hub?

A cargo hub physical facility is a centralized location where goods, merchandise, and other types of freight are stored, processed, and consolidated for transportation to their final destination. It serves as a crucial link in the supply chain, streamlining the shipping process and maximizing efficiency for shippers, carriers, and other stakeholders. The physical cargo hub typically consists of storage areas, loading docks, and sorting and distribution facilities. Indira Gandhi airport is one such example.

Here is a list of some of the major airport cargo hubs in India:

  1. Delhi International Airport (DEL)
  2. Mumbai Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (BOM)
  3. Chennai International Airport (MAA)
  4. Kolkata Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport (CCU)
  5. Hyderabad Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (HYD)
  6. Bangalore Kempegowda International Airport (BLR)
  7. Ahmedabad Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport (AMD)
  8. Pune Lohegaon International Airport (PNQ)
  9. Jaipur International Airport (JAI)
  10. Coimbatore International Airport (CJB)

These airports serve as important gateways for the movement of goods and freight in and out of India. They handle a significant volume of air cargo, making them some of the busiest airports in the country in terms of cargo operations.

In his address to the UP Global Investors Summit on Friday, Tata Group Chairman N Chandrasekaran stated that Air India intends to connect every part of Uttar Pradesh to the rest of India and potentially too important global destinations. We are undergoing a massive expansion across all of our companies in the state. “We already have significant investments in Noida, both from TCS and from Air India,” Chandrasekaran said, according to PTI.
